This full sun plant combination provides enjoyment nearly year-round but is especially showy in spring when the ITOH peony is covered in voluptuous blooms. It's joined by the smaller, more delicate blooms of the upright redvein enkianthus which provide a color echo. As the spring blooms fade, Eggplant Ecstasy daylily makes its entrance—dark flowers coordinate with the foliage of the dwarf barberry. In fall, the enkianthus takes on red tones before going dormant for the season. The golden variegated foliage of the anchoring shrub, Cornus 'Hedgerow's Gold' also undergoes pleasing changes in fall and when it casts its leaves off for the winter, vivid red stems steal the show.
